For years, the forerunner expos of the EduXplore expo focused on educational possibilities that offer an alternative to state education. Initially it was aimed at home education, later also small informal schools (cottage schools) and then also private schools. As the first children, after the legalization of home education in 1995, reached school-leaving age, it also involved alternative tertiary education institutions.
Home education has begun to gain massive popularity and South Africa is currently one of the four states in the world which, according to the best indications, has the largest number of home-educated children. Initially, the growth was largely a counter-reaction to the decline in state education, but homeschooling families soon discovered the real value of this lifestyle and it opened up a value-driven world of independence and freedom for them.
EduXplore’s target market is largely home and private education families for whom lifelong curiosity and an adventurous life journey are more important than achieving a gold-embossed certificate or degree. People for whom “working” is not only about earning money, but who wants to practice a profession that offers him/her an enjoyable and satisfying vocation.
A fruitful learning process is not limited to just the child and/or his class group, but is shared by the whole family. An important part of this is also hobbies, extracurricular activities and community service and inspiration. Learning does not stop either – it is eternal. Once a student, always a student! Learning does not take place in isolation nor with distinction in the pedagogical space of the classroom – but precisely within the reality experience of a societal context.
